A total of 258 doctors participated in the survey - General practitioners (45%), Dentists (13%), Ayurvedic doctors (6%), Others (36%)

  • Most of the doctors (42%) stated that they rarely come across incorrect information about COVID-19 being circulated on social media and networking apps.

  • Maximum doctors (88%) find awareness measures taken by the government, via caller tunes and media ads to be beneficial.

  • 41% of the doctors feel that the public/patients show low compliance with the suggested preventive measures, followed by moderate (32%) and high compliance (22%).

  • When asked which factors may cause a delay in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 in India, 33% doctors stated it is patients seeking late medical care, followed by lack of awareness among patients (31%) and low availability of the diagnostic test (20%).

  • According to 45% of the doctors, mandatory screening programmes for all travelers can be initiated to help control COVID-19 in India, followed by conducting awareness programmes (27%) and designing guidelines for primary healthcare providers (17%).

According to the survey,  the majority of the doctors stated that they rarely came across incorrect information about COVID-19 on social media. Most of them feel that awareness measures taken by the government are beneficial but can only be fully effective if the public and COVID-19 infected patients show compliance with the suggested preventive measures. According to the doctors, patients not attending to the symptoms and seeking late medical care are the major issue related to the management of COVID-19.

Doctors can educate their patients about the severity of the disease and how they can prevent themselves from being infected during the outbreak. They can make their patients aware about the importance of seeking quick medical care when sick and following the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of infection.

Additionally, healthcare organizations can contribute in containing the infection spread by encouraging their staff to strictly follow the guidelines for screening, monitoring, and treating  COVID-19 patients.
